"Battle of the Banks" Food Drive to Benefit the Food Center of Johnson Co.

WARRENSBURG, MO — Local financial institutions are turning professional competition into community cooperation this holiday season with the launch of the 2026 "Battle of the Banks" food drive challenge. Running from November 1 through November 20, 2026, the interactive event brings four regional mainstays together in a friendly race to fight food insecurity across Johnson County.

Participating local institutions include:

Central Bank
F&C Bank
Community National Bank & Trust

All non-perishable goods and donations collected throughout the three-week campaign will directly benefit The Food Center of Johnson Co., ensuring local families have access to essential resources ahead of the winter holidays. While the primary goal is maximizing the collective impact against hunger, the bank that collects the most donations by the November 20 deadline will secure ultimate community bragging rights and the 2026 championship title.

The event's creator and coordinator, CMCCU’s Joshua Detherage, emphasized that the friendly competition serves a deeper purpose. Reflecting on the campaign's local impact, Detherage shared, “Each of my competitors is a colleague for whom I have deep respect. They love our community and constantly inspire me to explore different ways to connect with our customers and members.”

Residents can drop off non-perishable items inside the lobby of any participating local branch office during standard business hours. High-demand items requested by the food center include canned proteins, boxed meals, peanut butter, and canned fruits or vegetables.
